August 15, 2023 by mhawks

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with colleagues and expand your skills and competence in working with individuals and groups in multi-sensory environments! The annual, international organization for multi-sensory environments is coming to the U.S. this year (Indiana), at the end of September.

Are you ready to learn more about the benefits of multi-sensory environments?

JOIN US for the annual, international MSE Conference in Indiana this fall, September 28-29-30 at Valparaiso University! An international team of speakers will present everything from MSE Boot Camp Basics to designing and setting up an MSE space, to teaching skills for creating meaningful interactions that facilitate experiential learning and quality-of-life outcomes in an MSE.

Experiential learning especially supports and benefits individuals with various challenges and difficulties. Therapeutic, educational, and recreational goals focus on the organic engagement and intrinsically motivated exploration, movement, reflection, and reciprocation with individuals or groups.

MSE processes nurture self-determination and a sense of belonging by cultivating companionship, creating accessibility for the unknowable human potential for greater unity and community through experiential learning and growth.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for one, two, or all three days. CLICK HERE to view speakers and topics and learn more!

Thankful for Direct Support Professionals!

September 15, 2022 by mhawks

Direct Support Professionals are an integral part of daily life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their professional knowledge, skills, and dedication to those whom they serve, ensures that Individuals receive quality of life services in the care they need.

This is Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week, as designated by the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR). We recognize and thank those who are providing these vital services. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and Quality of Life Institute, Inc. appreciates all you do!

ANCOR represents DSP’s that, collectively, support over one million American individuals with disabilities. The ANCOR Association offers leadership throughout the year, working to:

Shape Policy, Share Solutions, and Strengthen Community

With it’s Gentle Teaching-based training programs for Direct Service Professionals, the Quality of Life Institute shares ANCOR’s mission:

“to advance the ability of our members in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to fully participate in their communities,”

and has joined in the celebration, promoted as a moment to acknowledge the dedication and accomplishments of outstanding Direct Support Professionals and their vital contributions to communities across the country

You are welcome to join our circle of gratitude and giving forward, with written words we can share with the Direct Service Professionals in our community, or you might consider a donation of in-kind services or contribution to our general fund that supports the education, well-being, and overall quality of life valuing of Direct Support Professionals. We love them!

“In human development, freedom and the genuine feel of self-determination are only concepts until they become developed and differentiated through one’s narrative story. This is a quality of life goal and outcome, produced through reciprocal relationship-building processes that incorporate a framework of Gentle Teaching, where learning and living begin with feeling safe and loved.” ~Dr. Anthony M. McCrovitz, Executive Director
